Bored (or so hungover that the thought of moving all day is almost painful to imagine)? It’s time to forget the lazy Saturdays (and Wednesdays in the warmer months) before time runs out. Each week, Athens residents put on a Farmer’s Market on State Street in the parking lot next to the Athena Grand. At the market, people can enjoy the freshest produce of Athens.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., people can come to the lot, sample goods and purchase a number of different products, including fudge, jam, apparel, soaps, fruit, salsa, breads and many other homemade/organic products.
The Athens Farmer’s Market is a fantastic way to get more involved in the community, meet community members and try the products of entrepreneurs trying to expand their businesses. Not to mention, for those of you who are car-less, there is an OU Mini-Farmer’s Market in which many of the vendors from the larger market come to to sell their products. (Side note: These are great places to try MANY, MANY samples; it’s awesome). This market will re-open Spring Semester of the school year.
Thriving off of the Athens community, both markets are a great way to support healthy living, enjoy organic products of Athens and become a participating member of not only the OU community, but the Athens community.
So, next time you need to get out of your house, think of the markets on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and become an active member of the community that we love so much.
